This is a backpacking and fly fishing trip into the Ansel Adams Wildnerness in the Eastern Sierra out of Mammoth Lakes. This is the current itinerary, with a few options/tweaks still to be determined.

The trip starts at the Agnews Meadow Trailhead, just east of Mammoth Lakes. Depending on road construction at the time, we either park at the trailhead or take the shuttle that runs from Mammoth to Reds Meadow and get on/off at the trailhead.

Day 1, from the trailhead, we take the "River Trail" along the San Joaquin River, fight off temptation to make a few casts and proceed to the intersection of the  trail to Shadow Creek. We take that uphill, pass amazing beauty and sights to Ediza Lake for the first nights camp, just below the Minarets. That evening we either fish around Ediza Lake or take a short trek to Iceberg Lake just a 1/2 mile further up the trail.

Day 2 we retrace our steps just a little and get on the John Muir Trail heading north. First stop is Garnet Lake where we have to make a big decision to either setup a base camp here for 2 nights, or just spend some time fishing this fish filled lake and proceed on to Thousand Island Lake a little further down the trail.

Day 3 we either day hike on to Thousand Island Lake a couple miles away and back, or we are already there and we explore it for the day.

Day 4 we hike back out, likely along the San Joaquin River for fishing or possibly along the "High Trail" for more spectacular views.

The Middle Fork of the San Joaquin River and these lakes provide tremendous backcountry fishing.. Also, see "Sierra Grand Slam" of rainbow, brown, brook, hybrid golden-rainbows" from https://www.visitmammoth.com/trip-ideas/fishing-san-joaquin-river/
